Blind Spot Detection Guide

Blind spot detection can warn about a vehicle or person in a set area, but it cannot remove every blind spot. The best system is chosen after the fleet maps the real vehicle and turning risk.

The short answer

Measure the areas the driver cannot see. Decide which road users matter in each area. Then choose camera, radar or AI detection for that task. Test the view, warning timing and false alerts on the target vehicle before a wider rollout.

What does blind spot detection do?

A warning system watches a set zone beside or behind the vehicle. It may use a camera, radar or both. A warning tells the driver that a target may be present. It does not always steer or brake the vehicle.

How should a fleet map the risk zone?

Check direct sight, mirrors and camera views while the vehicle is straight and turning. Include trailers, lift equipment and body parts. Repeat the check with the driver seated in the normal position.
