Police Vehicle Camera Systems: In-Car Video, Dash Cam and Driver Alerts
Police Vehicle Cameras
A police vehicle camera system records from the vehicle and, on some models, warns the driver about the road or about driver behaviour. This guide covers camera positions, storage, access rules and the AlwayCare models to review. AlwayCare does not make body-worn cameras or evidence-management software, and nothing here is a statement of legal compliance.

What an in-vehicle system can include
| Part | What it does | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| Front camera | Records the road ahead | Windshield position that does not block the driver view |
| Cabin camera | Records the front seats | Agency policy on cabin recording and notices |
| Rear or side camera | Records behind or beside the vehicle | Weather protection and cable route |
| Recorder | Stores video from every camera | Storage size, loop recording and download method |
| Driver alert unit | Warns the driver about the road or about distraction | Alert settings and review process |
| Network and platform | Sends events or video to the office | Who can view, how long video is kept and how access is logged |
What to decide before buying
- Policy first: what is recorded, when, who can view it and how long it is kept.
- Whether cabin recording is allowed and what notice is given.
- How video is downloaded and handed to the people who need it.
- Which vehicles are covered and how long each installation takes.
- Who maintains the units and replaces storage cards.
Requirements for evidence handling differ by country and agency. Confirm them with your own legal and records team. AlwayCare does not claim that any product meets a specific evidence or security standard.

Questions agencies ask about police vehicle cameras
Does AlwayCare make body-worn cameras?
No. AlwayCare products are in-vehicle fleet cameras, recorders and driver-alert devices.
Can a vehicle camera record the cabin?
Models with a cab-facing camera can. Whether it is allowed is set by agency policy and local law.
How is video kept safe?
That depends on the platform and your own access rules. Decide who can view, export and delete video before the system goes live.
Can a police vehicle use a standard fleet dash cam?
Technically a fleet dash cam records from the vehicle. Whether it fits a given agency depends on that agency's requirements, so check them first.
Do driver alerts record events?
Alerts on supported models can be saved as events with the video around them. Settings and review process decide how they are used.
