Do aftermarket AlwayCare devices make a vehicle compliant with EU GSR or UN R151/R159?
No. EU GSR and UN R151/R159 are vehicle type-approval requirements; fitting an aftermarket device does not by itself make a vehicle compliant.
These rules apply when new vehicle types are approved. AlwayCare devices can add driver monitoring, blind spot and forward warnings to vehicles already in service, but compliance is assessed for the vehicle, not the add-on device.

Driver monitoring
Adds fatigue and distraction alerts to trucks and buses already in service.

Blind spot warning
Adds blind-zone warnings on existing vehicles; type approval is still assessed for the vehicle.

Know the rules
Our guides summarize current EU and country rules that affect fleets and vehicle manufacturers.
Good to know
- Check the rules in each market with the relevant authority or a type-approval specialist.
- Local schemes such as London's Direct Vision Standard have their own requirements; confirm them separately.
